Corinthians lifted the Supercopa do Brasil on Sunday afternoon, beating Flamengo 2-0 at Mané Garrincha in Brasília in front of more than 71,000 supporters, and ending a near seven-year winless run at the venue.
As reported by Meu Timao, the result snapped a long barren streak at the ground. It was their first victory there since 29 July 2018, a 4-1 Brasileirão win over Vasco da Gama, when Ángel Romero struck a hat-trick and Jadson added the other, with Ricardo Graça replying.
In the intervening six and a half years, Corinthians returned three times without winning, losing to Fluminense in the 2019 league, drawing with Portuguesa in the 2023 Paulista, then falling to São Paulo in the second round of the 2024 Campeonato Brasileiro.
The latest triumph improved the club’s overall record at Mané Garrincha, which stretches back 59 years. Across 16 matches they have 25 points, with seven wins, four draws and five defeats, a 52.1% return, and a goal tally of 29 scored and 18 conceded.
For now, there is no schedule for the team to return to the stadium this season.
