Corinthians eye Flamengo midfielder, rule out rival’s midfielder

With the transfer ban at FIFA officially lifted, Corinthians is expected to become increasingly active in the market to strengthen the squad led by Dorival Júnior. One of the priorities is to find a defensive midfielder, especially after Maycon’s departure, and the club now has a new target.

According to information initially reported by Uol Esporte, Corinthians has inquired about midfielder Allan, 28, who belongs to Flamengo, and the move was well received by the player’s representatives.

The midfielder is also a target for São Paulo, which has been negotiating with the Rio club in recent weeks, but has not been able to reach an agreement. Allan’s representatives believe that Corinthians’ project is currently ahead of that presented by their rival, which is experiencing a severe political crisis.

Despite the interest, talks are still at an early stage. So far, Corinthians has only made an informal inquiry to the player’s staff, with no contact yet with Flamengo’s management, the club that holds his rights.

The alvinegro board is currently evaluating the feasibility of the deal. If negotiations progress, Corinthians is expected to pursue a loan for the midfielder.

Another name linked to Corinthians in recent days was São Paulo’s midfielder Alisson. However, Central do Timão has learned that there has been no contact between the boards, and the alvinegro leadership rules out signing the player.

The 32-year-old midfielder has become a kind of “trusted man” for Dorival Júnior, the current Timão coach, as he was important to the coach’s tactical scheme in São Paulo’s 2023 Copa do Brasil victory. However, the Paulista Alvinegro is expected to continue searching for other names for the position.

For now, Corinthians has only one signing in the works: center-back Gabriel Paulista, 35. Already agreed with the club, the defender arrived in Brazil this Friday (9) and has already spoken about his expectations of playing for his childhood team. He joins on a free transfer, as he was a free agent after terminating his contract with Besiktas, Turkey.
