Corinthians supporters have criticised Ronald Koeman for keeping Corinthians' number 10 Memphis Depay on the bench for 120 minutes as the Netherlands went out to Morocco on penalties in the World Cup last 32. According to Meu Timao, the decision sparked a backlash on social media.

Morocco had the better of the first half but could not make it count. After the interval the Netherlands led through Cody Gakpo from a Crysencio Summerville assist, before Issa Diop levelled in stoppage time to force extra time.

With the deadlock unbroken in extra time, the shootout decided it. The Netherlands missed three kicks, by Kluivert, Timber and Summerville, while Morocco failed with efforts from Hakimi and El Aynaoui before Saibari converted the winner.

Memphis started among the replacements, behind Brobbey, Summerville and Gakpo, and, unlike earlier World Cup outings, was not used at all. Supporters lamented the call and highlighted his status as the national team's all-time leading scorer.

With the Dutch campaign over, Memphis will be given a few days off before rejoining Corinthians, having had no break between his club season and international duty. His contract runs until 31 July and talks over a new deal continue. He remains a doubt for the 12 July friendly against Cascavel and is currently ineligible for official matches due to registration issues with the FPF.
