Corinthians futsal idol to play final tournament in Japan before retiring

On the night of last Saturday (13), Corinthians took to the court against Jaraguá, at Arena Jaraguá, for the second match of the National League final (LNF), and ended up being defeated 3-0, consequently finishing as runners-up. In the first leg, the teams drew 3-3.

In an interview with Rádio Coringão and Central do Timão after the match, Corinthians Futsal's number 10 and idol Deives stated that he will compete in a tournament with the team in Japan at the beginning of 2026, before retiring from the courts. It's worth remembering that initially, the 40-year-old player was set to end his career at the end of this year.

“I will still participate in this tournament in Japan, everyone knows it was an agreement we made, an agreement we made to participate and the people from the tournament side, the organizers, asked for it to be this way and Corinthians invited me. Obviously, I accepted because I want to, whenever possible, represent futsal on and off the court,” he began.

He also highlighted the affection that Corinthians fans living in Japan have for him, especially Gaviões Japão: “I will be present at these games in Japan and I will try to enjoy and bring the Corinthians flag to Japan as well, I receive so many messages daily from Gaviões Japão fans, they send me a lot of messages, they really wanted me to go and I have to thank them. Wherever I am, there's this affection and I just have to thank and I will participate in this tournament in Japan now in January so that I can close this chapter of this story. I carry Corinthians in my heart and the love for this club eternally,” he added.

Later, he was asked about the dreams he had in childhood and everything he achieved in his career, especially in the 10 years he spent at Corinthians – since 2015. In total, there were more than 300 goals scored, two National Futsal Leagues (2016 and 2022), Paulista Championships, Paulista League (2022), Futsal Super Cup (2020), São Paulo Cup (2025), and Mucho Más International Tournament (2025).

He expressed his gratitude to Corinthians and praised his journey within the sport, emphasizing that he always had the respect of everyone wherever he went.

“I just have to thank because I lived much more than I imagined. Yesterday I was thinking, man, the child who had a dream back then is very proud, very happy because he was able to live an integral sports career with a lot of respect. Wherever I went and where I didn't go, I have open doors. I created a family with the sport, I created a family with futsal. And I am very proud of the whole journey. I never dreamed that I would make history in a jersey like Corinthians. And I have to thank a lot, man, the Corinthians fans, the members, all the people who passed through the club, the boards, all the coaches, all the athletes.”

After the match, several Jaraguá fans approached Deives to take photos, even though the number 10 never played for the Santa Catarina team. Additionally, last Sunday (7), Corinthians paid tribute to the athlete at Neo Química Arena before the match against Juventude, in the last round of the Brasileirão, something mentioned again by Deives.

“Thank you from the heart, because it was all worth it. And I am very grateful to the club, very grateful to all the people. All these stories, all this history that was very beautiful and that leaves a legacy, very beautiful, as I said before, of commitment, of dedication, but mainly of respect. The Corinthians jersey (…) of all the opponents and what we are experiencing here, oh. I confess that I have never seen a futsal athlete being honored in a football stadium, as I was a few days ago, being honored by another club, being honored by a community that I never saw wearing this jersey here, man, for me it's fantastic, I believe it has this sense of accomplishment, it was very, it was very worth it,” he said.
