Corinthians keeper on Ferroviária clash: "Always a tough game"

On the night of Wednesday, the 15th, Corinthians faces Ferroviária in a decisive match for a spot in the grand final of the Women’s Libertadores. Nicole, the starting goalkeeper for Timão this season, commented on the challenge of facing Locomotiva and the atmosphere of the competition.

“We already know the Ferroviária team. It’s always a very tough, very hard game. We know the quality of Ferroviária. I think, as I said, in the Libertadores atmosphere, things change. They become very different. It’s always a classic, and in the Libertadores, it’s even more so. So, I think it’s going to be a great game, a tough game, a hard game. And I hope we can come out with the win,” the goalkeeper began in an interview with Fut das Minas.

“I think I prefer to play against teams we don’t know. I think Ferroviária already knows us so well that they know (how we play), they already have the tactics, they know how to hinder some of our decisions. I think I prefer to play against the Libertadores teams because, when we play against a Brazilian team, there’s already a lot of rivalry, classics… So, I think it goes way beyond just the game. The atmosphere, everything is different. So, I think I prefer to play against other teams,” she added.

A starter in the Brasileirão victory, Nicole kept her spot in the Libertadores even with competition from other goalkeepers. In addition, she has the penalty factor on her side, with a history of saves in her career.

“I always think that, in my mind, penalties are very psychological. So, sometimes, the girl has practiced her shot a million times, she shoots perfectly. And, in the end, there’s that pressure, that psychological thing. And I try to put a lot of responsibility on the girl. Like, it’s her responsibility to score, the pressure is on her.”, she explained.

As mentioned, the classic against Ferroviária takes place this Wednesday. The ball rolls at 8:00 p.m. (Brasília time), at Estadio Florencio Sola, in Banfield, Argentina. Whoever wins advances to the final. A draw leads to penalties.
