Corinthians midfielder addresses missed training on social media

Shortly before Corinthians took the field this Wednesday, the 15th, to face Santos in the Brazilian Championship, Venezuelan midfielder José Martínez posted a statement on social media, explaining his absence from the team's recent training sessions – which prevented him from being on the field for the match held on the São Paulo coast.

According to the text released by the player, the absences occurred due to a problem with his son's documentation, which prevented the family's trip to Brazil. The situation began when Martínez left the USA and traveled to Colombia last week. From there, he drove to Maracaibo, Venezuela, his hometown, to pick up his wife and son.

At the time of return, however, he was prevented from crossing the border due to a conflict between Colombians and Venezuelans, which led to the closure of the location and caused him to stay one more day in the country. The situation worsened when he tried to return to Colombia: his son, born in the United States and without Venezuelan citizenship, needed a visa to enter Colombian territory and board a flight to Brazil.

Faced with the difficulty, Martínez chose not to leave his family alone and returned with them to Venezuela. He was left out of the squad for the game against Santos, having only returned to training this Tuesday, the 14th. The club is considering imposing a fine on the player, but the next steps are yet to be decided.

“Clarifying my absence from the recent activities at Sport Club Corinthians:

During my time off due to the FIFA Date, I returned to Venezuela to finally try to resolve my son's situation, who, since my arrival at Corinthians, has remained outside the country.

Unfortunately, some bureaucratic issues delayed this process, and I needed a few more days to finally expedite this situation that was bothering me a lot.

That's why I ended up delaying my return to training.

Now, I am back and ready to resume the routine of training and games with Timão, happier than ever.”
