Corinthians near Argentine defender's return, Caicedo move unlikely

After announcing the signings of midfielder Paola García (Deportivo Cali-COL) and forward Rhaizaa (Bahia), Corinthians is close to securing the return of defender Agustina Barroso, who played for Flamengo in 2025 – 30 matches. The player, currently a free agent, had already played for the Brabas in 2017. That season, she played only two games (both in that year’s Libertadores, which ended with a Corinthians title against Colo-Colo from Chile).

According to information published by Meu Timão, the Argentine defender is already in São Paulo to undergo medical exams. Only bureaucratic details remain for the deal to be finalized and, consequently, her official announcement. Throughout her career, besides Corinthians and Flamengo, she has also played for Palmeiras, Ferroviária, Osasco Audax, UAI Urquiza (Argentina), Tenerife, and Madrid CFF, both from Spain.

In addition to the two players already announced, Corinthians has also reached an agreement with midfielder Ana Vitória, from Atlético de Madrid, Spain, and with forward Belén Aquino, who has been a standout for Internacional in recent seasons.

On the other hand, Corinthians is not expected to sign defender Kelly Caicedo, who was at Deportivo Cali, Colombia, and with whom negotiations were ongoing, for the 2026 season.

This is because, according to Meu Timão, the 23-year-old Colombian, who is also attracting interest from Flamengo and Pachuca in Mexico, had her release clause paid by an undisclosed club. It is worth remembering that, in 2026, the Brabas will compete in: Copa das Campeãs (Women’s Club World Cup), Supercopa, Copa do Brasil, Paulistão, Campeonato Brasileiro, and Conmebol Libertadores.

The Brabas’ first match in 2026 is scheduled for January 28, at 9:30 am (Brasília time), against Gotham FC from the United States, at Gtech Community Stadium in London, England, for the Copa das Campeãs semifinal.

According to information published by Meu Timão, Corinthians expects to announce the signing of the Uruguayan forward soon. According to the report, the player was signed from Internacional, where she played between 2023 and 2025, scoring 32 goals and providing 12 assists in 81 matches, on a two-year contract with an option to extend for another three years.

According to the report, the player’s contract with Corinthians was only signed last Monday (5th), which is the main reason for the delay in the announcement. Despite this, the player, according to the portal, already reported to the club’s training center last Monday to begin preseason.
