Corinthians began preparations on Monday for Wednesday’s Libertadores meeting with Independiente Santa Fé, as forward Kaio César started a physical transition programme following a right hamstring injury.

According to Meu Timao, right-back Pedro Milans also rejoined training with the squad after recovering from a left ankle sprain. Kaio César has been out since the 1-1 draw with Santos on 15 March.

The session opened with strength work in the gym. Players were then split into two groups, with those who played more than 45 minutes in Sunday’s derby completing indoor recovery while the rest worked through a 10 v 10 drill on the pitch.

Midfielder Alex Santana was another to resume group work, having been sidelined by former coach Dorival Júnior and kept to separate schedules. He will be reintegrated at the request of Fernando Diniz, a decision approved by president Osmar Stabile.

Santana’s last appearance for the Parque São Jorge club came on 15 May last year, a 1-0 win over Racing, of Uruguay, in the Copa Sudamericana.

Corinthians have one more training session on Tuesday before their home debut in this campaign. They host the Colombian side at Neo Química Arena at 21:30 in the second round of the competition.
