Sacha Tavolieri has revealed that former Club Brugge youngster Arne Engels is receiving interest from two Premier League clubs. Both Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest are said to be keen on signing Engels from his current side Celtic. Tavolieri is reporting that Nottingham Forest see Engels are a replacement for Elliot Anderson, who is expected to be part of a big money move this summer. Crystal Palace are now trying to convince Engels to join them instead of Nottingham Forest.
Engels came through the Club Brugge academy but left before making a first team appearance. Instead of remaining in Belgium, he crossed the border into Germany and joined Bundesliga side Augsburg. Here, Engels really impressed and after 53 games he was snapped up by Celtic.
During his first season with Celtic, Engels was in fine form. Over the course of 52 games in all competitions he scored 10 goals and provided 13 assists. Last season his numbers dropped somewhat, with just seven goals and eight assists in 46 games. However, Engels is only 22, and it is clear why the likes of Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest would be interested. For Engels, a move to the Premier League could help him try and force his way into the Belgian national team, having missed out on the World Cup squad.
