Norwich City supporters will be worried if Crystal Palace swoop for Gabriel Sara following Michael Olise's Bayern Munich move

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich confirmed the signing of Crystal Palace ace Michael Olise, formerly of Reading, on Sunday afternoon.

According to Sky Sports, Bayern paid £50.8m for the 22-year-old's services, and while Palace have collected a handsome fee for the midfielder, his departure comes as the first real setback to Oliver Glasner's impressive reign at Selhurst Park.

The former Frankfurt boss has instilled a stellar, free-flowing brand of football to the Eagles, who finished in an impressive 10th place in the Premier League table following Glasner's arrival in South London back in February, but in order to maintain this momentum, the Austrian must now seek an Olise replacement this summer.

Back in May, BBC Sport revealed that the Eagles were interested in Norwich City star Gabriel Sara, and his signature may be more of a need than a want for the Selhurst Park outfit following Olise's exit.

Now that the France youth international has left the Eagles, Glasner and co will surely be more keen than ever before to pursue a deal for Sara, which spells bad news for the Canaries.

Olise's departure to Bayern has given the Eagles a fresh injection of funds, which should allow the Selhurst Park side to freely pursue Sara, who they had already been linked with.

Since joining Palace from Reading in the summer of 2021, Olise has been nothing short of sensational, and he produced a stunning return of 10 goals and six assists in 19 Premier League outings last campaign.

The former Royals starlet is undoubtedly a tough act to follow, but Glasner should have faith in Sara, who scored 13 goals and made 12 assists in the Championship last season.

Although the Brazilian plays in a different role to that of Olise, his goal contributions with the Canaries show that he could be able to fill the creative void left behind by the 22-year-old.

Furthermore, Palace can look at Olise himself as evidence that players who have performed will in the Championship can go on to become electric in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the Canaries would be devastated to see the back of Sara, who played an absolutely vital role in firing his side to the 2023/24 play-off places.

Ultimately, the Norfolk outfit fell to an emphatic 4-0 defeat at the hands of Leeds United in the play-off semi-final, a result which cost former boss David Wagner his job.

But the creative midfielder was superb for the Canaries during the regular season, which is a luxury new manager Johaness Hoff Thorup may not be able to witness, while a Sara exit would be a major blow to his current side's top-six credentials.

While the Eagles could deem Sara to be a suitable Olise replacement, the Canaries may find a successor to the skillful Brazilian harder to come by.

The new Norwich boss already has a tough task on his hands, as he looks to adjust to English football after moving to Carrow Road from Danish Superligaen side Nordsjaelland earlier this summer.

Under Hoff Thorup's guidance, the Canaries have already conducted some successful business, with the signing of defender Jose Cordoba from Bulgarian outfit Levski Sofia.

The Panama international has shown his class of late, as he played a key role in his nation's somewhat improbable run to the Copa America quarter-finals.

But the Canaries' transfer window could be about to take a significant turn for the worse, should Sara depart the club amid Palace interest, and Hoff Thorup would then have a very tricky job on his hands as he strives to take his new club into the play-offs.
