According to PaponaColina, Vasco are close to signing Nottingham Forest left-back Cuiabano. He is expected at São Januário in the coming days after rejecting Cruzeiro to honour a verbal commitment.
Cruzeiro, financially powerful and in the Copa Libertadores, made formal approaches to Forest and the player’s camp. Cuiabano nevertheless prioritised Vasco’s sporting project and the chance to be a leading figure for Fernando Diniz.
The ripple was felt in Belo Horizonte. Cruzeiro halted a proposed sale of young left-back Kaiki once it realised Cuiabano would not arrive as his replacement.
Forest and the player have agreed to proceed. Outstanding work is limited to paperwork, then travel to Brazil for medicals and signing. Vasco mixed patience with timely financial aggression to free the deal.
Vasco improved their bid three times. A wages-only loan was rejected, then a loan with a six million euro option was also refused. The accepted solution is a paid loan of one million euros, with a 10 million euro option contingent on performance, worth about R$ six million and R$ 60 million.
Beyond strengthening a thin position, the move adds real competition for Lucas Piton and Victor Luis. Inside the club, the player’s stance has been welcomed as a sign of commitment to the 2026 rebuild.
