Diniz defended his touchline rebuke of Nuno Moreira and said firm demands are central to his work at Vasco after a goalless draw with Madureira. According to PaponaColina, he spoke post-match amid rising criticism from the stands.
The 0-0 result at São Januário came in the 5th round of the Campeonato Carioca on Monday night. Booed at full-time and labelled “burro” by a section of fans, he said he understood the reaction to the display and scoreline.
In his news conference he argued that an energetic touchline manner is part of his method and denied any disrespect. He said robust feedback is one of the pillars he uses to help players progress and that he gives himself fully to it. He added that if he had noticed the cameras he might have held back, calling that his mistake.
Diniz said his relationship with the squad is built on dialogue and trust, pointing to players he feels have developed under him. He compared the reprimand for Nuno to similar episodes with others in the group, such as Rayan.
He emphasised that his concern is not only the immediate result, but correct execution and the team environment. While accepting that adjustments are needed, he maintained faith in his approach and in the players responding over the season. Vasco now return to action under pressure as the Taça Guanabara nears its final stretch.
