David Cordón, father of Getafe teenager Davinchi, has been confirmed among the injured after Sunday’s two-train collision in Adamuz, which has an official death toll of 39. He had initially been listed as missing after attending Getafe v Valencia with his son and travelling back towards Huelva.

EFE reported that relatives were unable to contact him on Sunday and into Monday morning, so he was treated as missing until confirmation that he is in hospital. The extent of his injuries has not been disclosed.

He was on the Alvia Madrid-Huelva that collided with an Iryo service. He is among 43 people receiving hospital treatment.

Getafe issued a message on social media urging respect, prudence and solidarity, and expressing hope for Cordón. Davinchi later posted a religious message on Instagram.

Cordón is a former Spain beach soccer international, with World Championship runner-up finishes in 2003 and 2004, European titles in 2001 and 2004, and he was named Euroliga’s best player in 2004. His son joined Getafe last summer from Recreativo de Huelva, debuted in the Primera División this season, and is currently recovering from a serious meniscus injury. He featured for Recreativo’s first team in Primera RFEF last season at only 16.
