Liverpool’s £116 million signing Florian Wirtz has now been given a clear timeline to impress, with former Reds midfielder Didi Hamann suggesting the German could leave Anfield in January if he does not show his worth.

Speaking to CoinPoker.com, Hammann made the bizarre claim: “Could Florian Wirtz still leave Liverpool on loan in January? Yeah.”

It’s a notion that absolutely nobody will get behind.

Hamann also claimed the competition between our two expensive forwards, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, is holding both players back.

“I never really understood why they got two centre forwards… you want to know that you’re the main man,” he said, noting that such battles can undermine confidence and performance.

Wirtz, who joined us from Bayer Leverkusen after consecutive Bundesliga Player of the Year awards, has struggled to make the same impact he enjoyed in Germany.

Hamann highlighted that the team’s disarray makes it even harder for our No.7 to shine, adding that he does not appear happy at the moment and tends to overcompensate defensively.

While the German pundit’s perspective is worrying, it overlooks the context that Liverpool have endured a difficult start to the season, with our squad adjusting after the departures of Luis Diaz and other key players.

Hamann’s assessment comes as the Reds aim to regain stability following a tough run of results, including a disappointing home defeat by PSV in the Champions League.

Support for Wirtz from Klopp and evidence of potential

Despite the criticism, Wirtz has defenders at Anfield, including former boss Jurgen Klopp.

The 58-year-old publicly defended him as a “once-in-a-century talent” and dismissed scrutiny over his slow start as overblown.

It seems that Klopp is in the minority of stories coming from German sources that are actually positive around Wirtz’s future at Anfield.

Sport Bild tried to drive a wedge between Mo Salah and the German playmaker with their stories and it’s all quite odd how this situation is being handled.

As Liverpool look to stabilise results, Wirtz’s next few weeks will be critical.

The German international’s adaptation to Premier League intensity, alongside balancing competition between Isak and Ekitike, will shape both his short-term future and the club’s season.

While Hamann predicts a January decision, Liverpool fans will hope our No.7 can soon produce the moments of brilliance that justified his record transfer fee.
