Liverpool Injuries Loom Over Slot Before West Ham Test

Liverpool travel to West Ham with their season in a fragile moment, and the manager has offered clarity on several key injuries that have shaped recent results. The Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven finished 4-1 and highlighted the absence of several influential figures, with concerns rising around the squad’s physical state and confidence.

Slot Addresses Pressure And Board Talks

Arne Slot remains under scrutiny as Liverpool sit 12th in the Premier League table. Their form, nine losses in twelve matches across competitions, has intensified questions about the direction of the team. During his pre match press conference, the manager confirmed he had already spoken with the club’s ownership about his position.

Injury Landscape Shapes Liverpool Selection

Liverpool’s issues were compounded midweek when Alisson Becker, Florian Wirtz and Joe Gomez all missed the heavy defeat. Summer signing Hugo Ekitike then added to concerns after picking up a knock during the match in Eindhoven.

Slot, however, delivered a more encouraging outlook ahead of the weekend clash. He explained: “Alisson trained again today with the team, we hope and expect he is available at the weekend.” The goalkeeper had only just recovered from a thigh problem before illness ruled him out of the PSV tie.

Florian Wirtz, who has battled muscle problems, is also progressing. Slot said: “[Florian] Wirtz will have his final day of rehab tomorrow, if all goes well he can train with the team on Saturday.”

There was further reassurance regarding Ekitike. The manager added: “[Hugo] Ekitike, today was a recovery day but they don’t expect it to be a big issue.” The forward has shown glimpses of sharpness since arriving, and his availability would give Liverpool an additional attacking option.

Joe Gomez, meanwhile, is edging back. Slot confirmed: “[Joe Gomez is] close. He could have been involved yesterday in terms of minutes. When we are 3-1 down, I tend to make offensive changes.” His versatility has been a significant loss, particularly with defensive instability becoming more visible in recent weeks.

Slot Seeks Turning Point In East London

Liverpool’s visit to West Ham is shaping into a vital moment in their campaign. The potential return of four players gives Slot a much needed lift, yet the spotlight remains intense. With Champions League qualification hopes drifting, improving performances and stabilising the squad will define the next phase of the season.
