Manchester United fullback Diogo Dalot has returned to first-team training ahead of this weekend’s Premier League match with Brentford.
Dalot, 26, picked up an injury on duty for Portugal during the international break earlier this month.
The fullback reported back to Carrington early after experiencing a muscular issue, leading him to miss the Manchester Derby – a match Ruben Amorim almost certainly would have started him in.
Dalot had been training on grass individually last week as he ramped up his return but the clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday came too early.
The injury came at an unlucky time for Portugal international, who had delivered a strong performance in the match prior to the setback with for his national team.
Deployed at left wing-back by Amorim against Burnley, Dalot was a positive outlet for his team on his unfamiliar side, even registering an assist as he crucially set up Bryan Mbeumo to score United’s second in a 3-2 win.
But in a positive update, the club announced the Portugal international took part in today’s training session at Carrington in a major boost for his head coach.
“Diogo Dalot has returned to full training with the Manchester United squad at Carrington,” the club website details.
“Dalot took part in the full session as Ruben Amorim and his coaches began preparations for our next Premier League assignment, the away game at Brentford. Saturday’s clash with the Bees at the Gtech Community Stadium kicks off at 12:30 BST.
“With Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount returning from their short lay-offs as substitutes in the victory over Chelsea, hopefully the boss will be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing his starting line-up in the capital.”
Dalot is part of the leadership group named by Amorim to help run the United dressing room, alongside Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, Tom Heaton, Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui.
The Portuguese head coach is evidently a big fan of his compatriot, valuing both Dalot’s attitude and professionalism, as well as the fullback’s versatility on the pitch.
Dalot’s return is, therefore, a major boost as Amorim and his team seek to build on a positive result from last Saturday’s fixture with another three points this weekend.
