Genk look set to lose another striker in a matter of weeks. After Tolu Arokodare left to join Wolves, his replacement looks set to also leave. With Alexander Isak set to leave Newcastle, the Magpies signing of Stuttgart forward Nick Woltemade has led the German side to offer Genk a deal they simply cannot turn down. According to Bob Faesen, Genk have accepted an offer for Hyun-Gyu Oh in the region of €27m plus add-ons. This is a huge profit making move for Genk, who signed Oh from Celtic for just €2.7m last summer.
It is another example of the impact of Premier League spending on other leagues, given that Oh is now going for the same fee that Arokodare, the sides top scorer from last season, was sold to Wolves for. No doubt Oh is a good player, with 12 goals in 41 games last season and two in six this season, but he was very much the back up to Arokodare. Genk had already rejected an offer from Feyenoord of €10m for the striker, so there was simply no way that they could turn down Stuttgart’s frankly ludicrous bid.
Celtic fans must also be bewildered at the fact that a striker who was unable to break into their first team and sold for a reasonable fee at the time is suddenly worth so much.
Genk already have a replacement in mind and will push to beat Millwall to the signing of Swedish striker Jusef Erabi from Hammarby.
