Emmanuel Grégoire, Paris’s new mayor and a committed sportsman, wants to keep PSG at the Parc des Princes at Porte de Saint-Cloud and is prepared to sell the stadium to the European champions to do so, according to L'Équipe.

He is likely to attend Wednesday’s PSG v Liverpool, days after a symbolic return for the 3-1 Ligue 1 win over Toulouse.

A genuine football fan and club supporter, his first Parc memory is the March 2002 Coupe de la Ligue semi-final, a 0-1 loss to Bordeaux amid fury at a late penalty.

Grégoire has played regularly with City Hall colleagues and is an avid runner, completing several marathons. During Covid he even ran one through the corridors of City Hall.

Before the 2022 rift between Nasser al-Khelaïfi and Anne Hidalgo, for whom he served as first deputy and led talks on the Parc’s future, the 48-year-old Socialist MP was a fixture in the presidential box.

He had stayed away in recent years and was not invited to the 5-0 win over Inter Milan in Munich on 31 May. On Friday he met Al-Khelaïfi, exchanged pleasantries, and received a shirt signed by the players.

He sat alongside the PSG president, wore a Collectif Ultras Paris scarf, applauded Ousmane Dembélé’s opener and chanted for Gonçalo Ramos after the third. He plans to seek a Council of Paris mandate on 14 April to start the process.
