Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin made his England return against Uruguay on Friday, then was named among eight players due to leave camp before Tuesday's Japan friendly at Wembley. England said in a Saturday night update that a revised squad of 27 players are preparing for the fixture.

The 29-year-old earned a recall after excellent Leeds form, named in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the Wembley meeting with Marcelo Bielsa’s side. Tuchel rested several stars including captain Harry Kane, Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke led the line as Calvert-Lewin started on the bench.

He replaced Solanke shortly after the break and linked play sharply, but headed a presentable chance wide from close range. Soon after, he challenged for a corner that travelled through for Ben White to tap in, England’s only goal in the 1-1 draw.

Those due to depart include Aaron Ramsdale, Fikayo Tomori and Calvert-Lewin. John Stones is returning to Manchester City for assessment after an issue in training before the Uruguay game.

Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Arsenal’s Noni Madueke have gone back to their clubs after knocks sustained during the match. Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka will also return to Arsenal for medical assessment.

The rest of that group, who arrived on Friday, were Dean Henderson, Nico O’Reilly, Ezri Konsa, Marc Guéhi, Dan Burn, Elliot Anderson, Morgan Rogers, Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane.
