Chelsea went into this week knowing it would be a huge one, and it’s a sure sign of that that attentions are already turning to Sunday’s game against Arsenal, long before we’ve really had a chance to celebrate the win over Barcelona on Tuesday.

The Blues face an in form Gunners team who are top of the Premier League and the Champions League. It will be our hardest test all season in terms of the level and form of our opposition. Bayern Munich were perhaps the best team we played until now – and Arsenal beat them last night.
The fact that we played on Tuesday and the Gunners yesterday could give us a slight edge, as will the fact that we’re playing at home. What else can we count on?
Sky Sports’ preview of the game brings up some interesting stats. They reckon that our central defensive partnership will play a key role:
“After 12 matches in a row without naming the same starting centre-back pairing, Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana may well have the opportunity to show they can be the first-choice duo at the heart of Chelsea’s defence.”
A look at our last run of Premier League games shows, in reverse order: Tosin and Chalobah, Chalobah and Fofana, Chalobah and Fofana, Josh Acheampong and Chalobah, Acheampong and Chalobah.
So while Sky are right that we’ve mixed things up in midweeks it’s pretty clear what Sunday’s pair will be Chalobah and Fofana, if Maresca doesn’t decide to replace Fofana with Benoit Badiashile, that is…
Chelsea’s star of the win over Barcelona on Tuesday night was Marc Cucurella, who excelled against his old team.
Once the Champions League gameweek 5 was over, Chelsea were locked into good position in 7th, with the chance to really kick things up a gear with a win over Atalanta next time out.
