Opposition manager: carly davies

Davies joined The Reds ahead of the 2023/24 season with over 20-years’ experience at Aston Villa in both a playing and coaching capacity.

The Reds’ Head Coach also worked within the England pathway at Under-19 level as well as a stint at West Bromwich Albion as Assistant Manager.

Since joining Forest, Davies has led the team to new heights, including a historic run to the fifth round of the Women’s FA Cup in 2024, the team’s best performance in over a decade.

Her leadership has also brought them silverware, as the Midlands outfit claimed the 2024/25 FA Women’s National League title and promotion to WSL 2.

And they’ve had a successful campaign in the second flight so far, currently sitting fourth with twelve points as they challenge for promotion to the top flight.

Their Subway League Cup form this season is also one to note as they sit in second, behind City, on four points.

After beating fellow WSL 2 side Newcastle 2-1, the Reds went on to force top-flight side Everton to penalties in an impressive display for Davies’ side.

Ones to watch

After enjoying a successful loan at Durham, Aimee Claypole joined the Reds from Chelsea ahead of the 2025/26 season.

During her time with Durham she scored five goals and was nominated for the Championship Player of the Season.

And she’s already made an impact with her new club as she was most recently voted Forest Women’s Player of the Month for November.

The young attacker will look to provide the Reds’ main threat going forward and could cause City problems from set pieces.

Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah is another of Forest’s summer signings, making the move to the Midlands after previous experience with Everton and Aston Villa before helping London City Lionesses gain promotion to the WSL last season.

The experienced forward is a Ghana international and was part of their squad who finished third at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Boye-Hlorkah is a versatile player who has great experience across the women’s football pyramid and is no stranger to big occasions.

Her leadership and versatility on the pitch will make her a dangerous threat for the Blues as she could look to exploit the wide areas of the pitch.

Previous meeting

The two sides last met in the 2021/22 FA Cup campaign as City put eight past the hosts to reach the Fifth Round.

A Georgia Stanway hat-trick, a brace for Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, plus goals from Caroline Weir, Filippa Angeldahl and Lauren Hemp claimed a comprehensive victory at the City Ground.

It proved to be a record-breaking afternoon for City as we recorded our 600th goal as a professional side, while Stanway also became the Club’s record scorer.

Last time out

The Blues took on Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium in the hotly-anticipated Manchester derby.

City took a three-goal lead in at the break against a side that were yet to lose on the road this season, beginning with a Rebecca Knaak header and sliding Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw effort.

Lauren Hemp then launched an exquisite strike into the top corner on her return to the starting line-up to put the result beyond doubt.

The win moved us seven points clear of our local rivals, and maintains our position at the summit of the WSL table.
