Former Pirates boss cruises to comfortable CAFCL victory

Josef Zinnbauer's JS Kabylie secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Tunisian outfit US Monastir in the first leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round on Friday.

The Algerian giants have one foot into the group stages of Africa's elite club competition as they return home with a three-goal cushion on away goals.

Notably, this is the Canaries' first participation in the Champions League since the 2021/22 campaign after a runners-up finish in the Algerian Ligue 1 last season.

The former Orlando Pirates mentor, Zinnbauer, has been tasked with winning the league and the coveted Champions League title, with Kabylie's last trophy dating back to the 2020/21 season.

Meanwhile, prior to the defeat, Monastir had only lost two of their last 29 matches across all competitions and were unbeaten in their last 11 outings.

Moreover, this is only the second time the Tunisian Ligue 1 side concede three goals in a CAF inter-club match - the first was against Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly in 2022.
