Antoine Semenyo’s spectacular backheel flick with just under 20 minutes to play proved to be the difference in a well-contested encounter in London.

Bernardo, who now has 20 major trophies in his impressive City career, was proud of the team’s efforts to claim our latest piece of silverware in his farewell campaign for the Blues.

“It’s very special. I’m very happy,” began Bernardo in an interview after the game. “Everything about my journey here at City was fantastic.  It’s really nice to finish this way.

“Hopefully we can still have a small dream that we can fight for the Premier League. We’re going to try against Bournemouth to keep those hopes alive. Today we’re really happy.

“It’s special for me being my last season to give them another trophy. Hopefully not the last one, but another trophy. Since I arrived it’s been 20 trophies, so it’s not bad.

“I’m happy to enjoy all these moments with teammates and fans as well.”

The skipper was also quizzed about his relationship with coach Pep Guardiola, who signed him for the Club back in May 2017.

“He changed the way that I see football,” continued Bernardo. “Nine years, so 80% of my career is with him as a manager.

“All the things I ever hoped to achieve was with him and under him. The relationship got very strong. With frustrations and achievements.

“I hope now that I’m leaving, one day when I go to the same city as him we can go for dinner and lunch and be friends.”
