Amad Diallo has been linked with Newcastle United and other clubs this summer, but a major obstacle stands in the way of any move.

Fabrizio Romano said in a social media post that Manchester United have no intention of selling the winger this summer, having told his camp in June that the club want to keep and trust him.

That position would appear to make any switch to St James’ Park highly unlikely, with United viewing the Ivory Coast international as an important part of their plans.

The 24-year-old remains hugely popular on Wearside after scoring 14 goals in all competitions on loan at Sunderland in 2022-23 under Tony Mowbray.

He helped Sunderland reach the Championship play-offs and delivered several memorable moments that cemented his bond with supporters. Since returning to Manchester, he has increasingly featured as a first-team option.

Any move to Newcastle would surprise many Sunderland fans given the affection that still surrounds Diallo.
