Fans aim for fireworks in desperate plea to stop club selling ‘oil tanker’ who ‘can’t be stopped’ to United

Bayern Munich supporters are doing their utmost to intervene with the club’s plans of selling Matthijs de Ligt as the centre-half closes in on a move to Manchester United.

Indeed, fans of the Bavarian outfit have taken to change.org with hopes of sending a message to their hierarchy after reports emerged detailing that not only had De Ligt been put up for sale, but he was also heavily linked with a permanent switch to the Red Devils.

It’s thought that a transfer will be easy to hash out between the two clubs as the Netherlands international is keen to reunite with former Ajax coach Erik ten Hag, so much so that he’s willing to take a pay cut to get a deal over the line this summer. Bayern, meanwhile, will demand around £42 million to sanction his exit, just two years after they signed him from Juventus in a £68m deal.

On Tuesday, the Bayern faithful’s petition – started on June 11 – to keep De Ligt at the club hit 7,000 signatures, yet now, it sits at a remarkable 39,000 after Christian Falk spoke on the topic in the latest instalment of his Bayern Insider podcast.

He also revealed that Paris Saint-Germain had established their interest in the 24-year-old, whom Mino Raiola once labelled an ‘oil tanker’ that ‘can’t be stopped’.

Unfortunately for fans, their pleas are likely to fall on deaf ears among Allianz chiefs. The Bundesliga giants have already welcomed Hiroki Ito to their ranks and are locked in negotiations with Jonathan Tah, which has only opened the door for De Ligt to embark on a new venture elsewhere.
