Michel Platini - Gianni Infantino
In a recent interview, Michel Platini did not hold back against Gianni Infantino.
Speaking to The Guardian, former UEFA president Michel Platini was far from gentle with FIFA president Gianni Infantino. "He was a good number two, but not a good number one. He did an excellent job at UEFA, but he has a problem: he likes the rich and the powerful, those with money. It's in his nature. He was like that as a number two, but back then, he wasn't the boss. Unfortunately, since the pandemic, Infantino has turned autocratic," the Frenchman began.
Michel Platini also lamented Infantino's methods: "There is less democracy now than in Blatter's era (FIFA president from 1998 to 2015, ed.). Say what you will about Blatter, but his main flaw was that he wanted to stay at FIFA for life. Still, he was a good person for football."
He concluded with these words: "I was destined to become FIFA president. All of this happened because they didn't want me there. That suspension was a grave injustice and, in the end, it was political. A group of people decided to destroy me. These past ten years have been extremely tough for my family—they see what's written in the newspapers, what people say about me, the international debate. But I never cared about the final verdict because I knew I was innocent, I knew that in the end, there would be nothing. I have always felt at peace with myself. With me, FIFA would have become an organization that cares about football, not politics."
