According to Globo.com, Fifa has ordered Corinthians to pay $850,000, about R$ 4.2 million at current rates, to New York City for extending Talles Magno’s loan last year.

The United States club filed the case after Corinthians failed to pay the sum due under an extension running from June to December 2025.

The forward joined on 1 August 2024 under then president Augusto Melo, on a deal to 30 June 2025 with an option to 31 December 2025 subject to payment.

Fifa’s case file records that Corinthians notified New York City on 4 March, while Melo was still in charge, to exercise the option. The $850,000 was not paid, including during the subsequent tenure of Osmar Stabile.

Corinthians argued it could not meet the payment because the presidency changed on 26 May and due to adherence to a payment plan negotiated at the CNRD of the CBF.

Fifa nevertheless ruled for New York City on 17 February, a decision only now disclosed, ordering Corinthians to pay the $850,000 plus 15% annual interest from 2 August 2025, a $90,000 fine to Fifa and $21,000 in legal costs.

Corinthians has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

If the appeal is rejected, the club could face a future transfer ban. A sanction is already in force over a $1,425,000 debt to Philadelphia Union for the signing of Venezuelan midfielder José Martínez.
