Eintracht Women suffered a 3-0 loss at home to BK Häcken in the first leg of their UEFA Women’s Europa Cup semi-final.

Niko Arnautis’s team struggled initially against their Swedish visitors, who enjoyed a brighter start and had the first good chance of the game. After a cross from Felicia Schröder in the seventh minute, Alva Selerud’s close-range effort was well saved by Lina Altenburg.

Eintracht fall behind There was nothing the goalkeeper could do to prevent her side conceding the opening goal in the 16th minute, however. Schröder’s cross from the right found Monica Jusu Bah on the edge of the penalty area, and she played the ball on to Selerud. The Häcken No.9 took it on the volley and left Altenburg no chance with her drive into the bottom-right corner.

The Eagles struggled to muster a response against the Swedish champions, leaving them a goal down at the interval.

Quickfire chances for Frankfurt Eintracht emerged for the second period with renewed purpose and had the first chance of the half in the 56th minute, only for Elisa Senß’s shot from the edge of the box to fizz narrowly over.

Just 60 seconds later, Rebecka Blomqvist arrived in the Häcken penalty area, but her shot from close range was denied by a last-ditch block.Schröder at the doubleThe Eagles would rue those misses in the 72nd minute when a wayward pass from Sara Doorsoun on the halfway line went straight to Schröder, who curled a first-time effort over Altenburg to make it 2-0. Nicole Anyomi almost reduced the deficit a short while later but could only hit the crossbar (76’).

Schröder’s second of the game in the 84th minute proved to be the decisive blow, putting Häcken 3-0 up. Doorsoun could have pulled one back just before the final whistle but was unable to find the target from close quarters.

The return leg in Sweden will take place on 2 April at the Hisingen Arena (kick-off 18:30 CEST).
