According to Sunderland Echo, Florent Ghisolfi faces a £18.5m call on Simon Adingra after AS Monaco chose not to activate their purchase option, setting up a pivotal summer.
Reshaping is under way, with Milan Aleksić joining Partizan Belgrade on an initial loan and Nazariy Rusyn close to Karpaty Lviv.
Monaco’s January loan for Adingra allowed Sunderland to invest in Nilson Angulo. The clause was not expected to cover Brighton’s fee in full but to recoup a significant share, and Monaco could yet try to renegotiate.
Adingra is at the World Cup with Ivory Coast. He missed a late chance against Germany before Deniz Undav scored, yet his side remain well placed, and a strong finish could aid confidence and interest.
Sunderland must judge if the 24-year-old fits Régis Le Bris’s plans. There were flashes, notably an excellent goal in the 1-1 draw with Leeds United, but heavy defensive duties blunted him. The left is crowded, with Chemsdine Talbi, Angulo and Enzo Le Fée options, and Romaine Mundle potentially departing.
New SCR rules sharpen the maths. Sunderland paid about £18.5m on a five-year deal, so while a sale around £15m brings a cash loss, it is near break-even in SCR terms for 2025/26. If bids imply heavy losses, a loan to rebuild value could appeal, though it carries risk.
