Forgotten Liverpool star will RETURN to starting line-up

A forgotten Liverpool star looks likely to return to the starting line-up against Chelsea.

It all comes down to this. One last game before the international break to change the entire momentum of Liverpool's season. A defeat would make it three consecutive defeats in a row.

It would likely put Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table and dampen everyone's mood heading into what will be an extremely busy period after the players come back from their international duty.

But on the other hand a victory changes everything. A win at Stamford Bridge would guarantee Liverpool maintain their position at the top of the league.

Morale will come back. Players will be looking forward to returning to the club after their international duties and continuing the fight.

The two defeats to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray would merely be a couple of blips on the road to glory, which is normal for any team.

In this day and age there aren't any 'invincibles' anymore.

But in order to make that happen, Slot will need to make changes. Things aren't quite happening in the way the Liverpool head-coach wants them to happen and this will mean adjustments are in order.

Some players are struggling and out of form at the moment. Others need a bit of a respite and some time away from the limelight of the media.

There are also players who simply aren't able to deliver what Slot needs in order for his system to work effectively.

One of the areas where the Reds are struggling is in their progressive build-up. As teams sit-back and defend deep against them Liverpool are running out ideas.

They are struggling to make incisive forward passes and are instead resorting to sideways and backwards passes which merely control possession for Liverpool but don't necessarily move the needle.

In order to solve this problem, Liverpool need really progressive passers from deep. Players who aren't afraid to make bold and risky passes.

This is probably one of the reasons why the Reds were interested in Dean Huijsen over the summer, and then why they pivoted to Marc Guehi.

Both of them are very progressive defenders and ideal when coming up against a low-block.

Someone who isn't necessarily suited to this at the moment is Ibrahima Konate. He has struggled in possession against both Palace and Galatasaray, which is why against Chelsea Joe Gomez should come into the starting line-up in his place.

It almost feels like he's been forgotten about a little bit so far this season. Gomez has barely featured playing just 29 minutes in the Premier League.

But as per Simon Brundish on X, he's averaged nearly double that of Konate's progressive passes per metre in his career to date.

This makes Gomez a much better option for Liverpool at the moment as they look to solve their problem of not being able to bring the ball out from the back.

Which is why we expect him to be in the starting line-up at Stamford Bridge.
