One former player who used to play for Manchester United as well as a number of other clubs, explains why Chelsea aren’t beating the big teams.
Here is a look at Chelsea’s record this season in the league meetings against the traditional top six clubs:
Two defeats there and two draws. However, apart from the City game on the opening day of the season, you can’t really say that Chelsea were outplayed or looked out of place and in fact, they really should have won both the United and Arsenal games and deserved a draw against Liverpool.
But it is also a fact that if they want to get back to the very top again challenging these teams over the course of an entire season, they really do need to start getting some wins against them. It would really send a message as well to the rest of the league to show they are back and challenging again under Enzo Maresca.
In time, it may well come. And former goalkeeper Ben Foster believes it might, and this is just all a progression thing at Chelsea.
Maresca will look to beat the big boys
Foster said via his YouTube channel this week after The Blues drew 1-1 with Arsenal on Sunday:
“I just feel they lack a little bit of belief going into these big games… When they play the big boys, I feel they go into it thinking don’t lose. Maybe that’s a progression thing.”
This might actually be true you know. This is still a very young team that lack experience, so I guess that kind of mentality is quite normal and could well change in time.
Enzo Maresca will surely help change this and bring out more belief in his players for these big games.
