Sabri Lamouchi has reportedly been sacked as Tunisia head coach after the 5-1 World Cup defeat by Sweden in Monterrey. EuroFoot reports that the former Nottingham Forest boss has been removed from his post.

Metro TV in Ghana said mounting pressure from supporters and officials followed Tunisia’s defensive collapse, adding it was the first time the country had conceded five in a World Cup match. The outlet said the humiliation made his position untenable.

After the match, Lamouchi described the loss as a difficult and painful start to a prestigious tournament and admitted his side made gross errors. He said giving space to Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres in attack would be punished.

The result left Tunisia bottom of Group F. They face Japan on Sunday, then play the Netherlands on 26 June.

Reports suggest assistant Wahbi Khazri will act as interim manager. Lamouchi signed a two-and-a-half-year contract when he was appointed in January.

The 54-year-old took Forest close to the Championship play-offs in 2020, only for a heavy final-day home loss to Stoke City to deny them. Appointed the previous summer, he remained in charge before being sacked in October 2020.
