Former West Bromwich Albion striker Jason Roberts has joined the club’s board as a non-executive director. According to ExpressAndStar.com, he will contribute to strategy rather than day-to-day operations.
He will sit alongside chairman and owner Shilen Patel, chief financial officer Ethan Gobetz and executive director Mark Miles at The Hawthorns.
Roberts, 48, is director of development at Concacaf. He will continue roles with Concacaf and the Global Institute of Sport, and maintain close work with the United Nations, where he helps spearhead the Football for Goals initiative.
Signed from Bristol Rovers for a then club-record £2 million in 2000, he scored 27 goals in 101 Albion appearances before leaving for Wigan in January 2004. His connection to the club is also familial, as he is the nephew of the late Cyrille Regis.
He described the appointment as an honour tied to his family’s history with Albion, and said he aims to help shape its strategic direction. He added that board-level experience gained since retiring is something he intends to apply in support of the club.
Roberts’ relationship with Patel dates back to the owner’s 2024 takeover, when the pair first spoke while Roberts lived in Miami. Now based in Jamaica, he has attended recent games against Sheffield United and Southampton and is set to return before the season ends. He founded the Jason Roberts Foundation in 2007 to support marginalised communities in the United Kingdom and the Caribbean, and received an MBE in 2010.
