FC Barcelona are narrowing down their search for an opponent for this summer’s traditional season curtain-raiser – the Joan Gamper Trophy match.
And, according to journalist Roger Saperas on RAC1, four distinct global clubs have emerged as the primary candidates to face the Catalan giants in the upcoming Gamper Trophy match.
Indeed, the Blaugrana are considering facing one of Al Ahly, Inter Milan, Juventus, and Cruz Azul in their first Gamper Trophy match back at the renovated Spotify Camp Nou.

The Catalans’ sporting department has had to completely restructure its pre-season scheduling after initial priority targets, including Dutch giants Ajax and Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig, were officially ruled out due to unavoidable European qualification and scheduling conflicts.
As a result, Barcelona are now actively evaluating a diverse list representing multiple continents. While the final selection rests with the board, the match is projected to take place on Wednesday, 19th August 2026.
The four clubs under serious consideration present a rich mix of competitive history against Barcelona:
Inter Milan: The reigning Italian heavyweights would bring elite European pedigree to the fixture. Barcelona hold a strong historical advantage over Inter, having faced them 18 times, securing eight wins, six draws, and four defeats.
Juventus: The Turin giants previously participated in the Gamper Trophy in 2021. Across their extensive European history, Barcelona and Juventus have battled 15 times in, with the Catalans claiming five victories, four draws, and six losses.

Al Ahly: The Egyptian powerhouse would offer a distinct global flair. Barcelona hold a perfect track record against them in friendly tournaments, having won both of their historical exhibition meetings – a 4-0 victory in 2007 followed by a 4-1 win in 2009.
Cruz Azul: One of Mexico’s most iconic and supported clubs offers a unique North American narrative. This fixture would mark a rare modern meeting between the two sides, as Barcelona look to entertain their global fanbase.
The Blaugrana are determined to secure an attractive, world-class matchup for the Gamper Trophy, where they will roperly unveil the reinforced squad to the supporters ahead of the grueling 2026/27 campaign.
