A thriller at Burnley brought late drama, as Brentford left Turf Moor with a 4-3 victory that keeps them seventh in the league table and in touching distance of European football.
Heading into Gameweek 28, lots of the FPL community were debating who was the best low-priced midfield. Almost 224,000 chose Dango Ouattara (£5.9m) and very quickly received an assist.
Alongside Ouattara, Igor Thiago (£7.1m) was a popular buy with 385,000 managers investing in the Brentford forward. He rewarded his new owners by scoring the Bees' second goal of the afternoon. Michael Kayode’s (£4.5m) long throw caused its usual chaos for the third, with Sepp van den Berg’s (£4.5m) header cleared off the line and scored by Kevin Schade (£6.9m) from the rebound.
Caoimhin Kelleher’s (£4.7m) 1.5 million owners were disappointed not to see him between the sticks. He missed out as his partner gave birth. Kelleher’s owners will look forward to seeing the new dad back between the sticks on Tuesday evening.
Gameweek 28’s highest-scoring player was Brentford’s very own Damsgaard, who grabbed 18 points. The Dane headed in Ouattara’s corner, before slipping through a perfect pass that allowed Thiago to double the advantage.
That wasn’t all. In a dramatic stoppage-time, he put Brentford back in front by controlling Rico Henry’s (£4.3m) cross and prodding home.
Playmaker Damsgaard racked up four shots, three of which were inside the box. Starts have been few and far between recently, but Keith Andrews likes to reward form, making the 25-year-old a good option for upcoming fixtures against Bournemouth, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United.

Last season, he finished inside the league’s top eight for chances created (63). In 2025/26, despite starting just 16 of 28, his 10 big chances created are beaten by only four others.
The next highest scorer after Damsgaard in GW28 was Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike (£9.0m), whose goal and two assists helped bring in 15 points. Some much-needed relief for the many who’d owned him through a frustrating lull in form.
João Gomes (£5.3m) was involved in both of Wolves’ goals on Friday night to claim a score of 14.
And it was the same goal and assist combination for Bruno Fernandes (£9.9m) and Harry Wilson (£6.0m), as all four Sunday matches finished 2-1 to the home team.
Meanwhile, Ekitike and Virgil van Dijk (£6.1m) are currently the most-bought players ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Wolves.
But the quick turnaround before Tuesday evening’s deadline (6pm GMT) doesn’t give much time for FPL managers to reach a decision on various high-profile knocks and concerns.
Erling Haaland (£14.8m) missed Manchester City’s win at Leeds, a match where Nico O’Reilly (£5.1m) seemed to hurt his ankle. The same body part forced Wilson off, soon after Fulham team-mate Joachim Andersen (£4.5m) was declared too ill to take part.
Then, when Arsenal faced Chelsea, Declan Rice (£7.5m) was removed due to discomfort after 75 minutes.
So keep an eye on pre-match press conferences for possible updates.
Such doubt over Haaland disrupts the probable plans of many to captain him at home to Nottingham Forest. Those who have fellow Man City attacker Antoine Semenyo (£8.2m) could instead trust him with their armband, knowing he’s scored four goals in six outings.
Perhaps Fernandes is the safest choice. He has four double-digit hauls from his last seven, about to visit St James’ Park, where Newcastle United haven't got the best form. Furthermore, three of the Magpies’ latest four at home have seen three goals conceded.
Ekitike versus Wolves also has appeal.
