France player ratings v Spain as Mbappé muted and Digne overwhelmed in 2-0 semi-final loss

France fell short of their recent tournament standards on Tuesday night, losing 2-0 to Spain in the 2026 World Cup semi-final as too many individuals underperformed.

Le Progres reports that the ratings reflected a flat display, with Digne overwhelmed, Mbappé too neutral, and Tchouaméni and Olise largely anonymous.

Mike Maignan was given five. He took risks with his distribution but mostly picked the right passes to bypass the Spanish press. He could do nothing about Oyarzabal’s 22nd-minute penalty and was left exposed for Porro at 58 minutes, then dealt with a few late moments.

Jules Koundé received four, willing to push on to offer options, but too loose in possession.

With levels dipping across the side, Les Bleus did not produce enough to keep realistic hopes of the final alive.
