Coventry City urged to dip into the free agent markets and should eye up ex-Premier League pair
Coventry boss Frank Lampard has been urged to dip into the free agent market and should target an ex-Premier League pair of wingers.
When it comes to conducting summer business, Frank Lampard's Coventry City weren't too active in the window, with only two notable signings coming through the door at the CBS arena. One being the highly rated Kaine Kesler-Hayden, who was brought to the club to replace the seemingly outgoing Milan Van Ewijk. However, things didn't plan out that way.
The Sky Blues also got the signing of Luke Woolfenden over the line from Ipswich Town, bringing in a wealth of experience that the Coventry backline was in dire need of. Apart from the pair of defensive reinforcements, Lampard stressed the importance of bringing a winger which hasn't quite come to fruition... as of yet.
Football League World's Coventry City fan pundit, Chris Deez, has urged the club to look into the free agent market after missing out on Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi in a deadline day deal.
With Lampard merely having three wingers at his disposal after Raphael Borges Rodrigues completed a loan move to League One side Wigan Athletic - Here are two players that could fit the bill in adding depth to Coventry's wide areas.
Moses has had a well-travelled career up to this point, playing at the top level with spells at clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool and Inter Milan, as well as time spent with the likes of Fenerbahçe and Spartak Moscow.
The Nigerian international could well be a decent option for Coventry City due to his proven abilities in wide areas, especially from crossing, and also his versatility, as Moses can play a plethora of positions on the right flank, front and back.
After being snapped up by Luton Town from the free agent market a couple of years ago, the Sky Blues could follow in the same vein to add depth to their attacking options and bring a wealth of experience into the group.
The 34-year-old had his moments with the Hatters. However, on the whole, he didn't introduce himself as a top-quality signing, perhaps highlighting the fact he's reached the point of being able to compete in the top-flight. Whereas, a move to Coventry could suit Moses and the club, even if it is on a one-year deal, as it would be a risk-free transfer that could chip in with some vital goal contributions as they look to return to the Premier League after a 25-year absence.
Another winger that could be shrewd business for Lampard's Coventry is former Brighton man Alireza Jahanbakhsh. The Iranian international is currently a free agent after spending last season with Dutch side Heerenveen, and the three seasons prior to that in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord.
Jahanbakhsh is well-known among England fans for his time spent at the AMEX Stadium with Brighton and especially for his audacious bicycle kick against Chelsea that he is most remembered for.
With the 32-year-old now without a club, a move to the Championship in the way of Coventry City could be a solid option for him to add to their already dangerous attacking threat.
The quality that he can provide the Sky Blues, delivering wicked crosses and also from dead-ball situations, could be a real asset to Lampard who, just like the move for El Ghazi, would be a low-risk move that could reap rewards from his signature.
The Iranian's standout season came in the 2017/18 campaign for AZ Alkmaar where he scored 21 goals and provided 12 assists in 33 league games. Outstanding form that he's not been able to replicate later on in his career, but it definitely shows that he has the ability to be a key performer in the Championship for Coventry.
