Real Madrid have a number of young talents brewing and honing their skills in the academy, and the current crop of teenagers have even been referred to as one of the golden generations of La Fabrica.

One of the players in that cohort is young Leo Lemaitre, a 16-year-old centre-back who is seen as one of the biggest defensive talents in the academy and currently plays for the Cadete A.

The youngster has been a Spanish international across youth levels so far in his career for his immaculate ability to stand strong at the back, but he has not been called up since April this year to the U-17 team and his situation could drastically turn as relayed by AS.

A change in Federation incoming?

As brought to light by the Spanish outlet, Lemaitre holds a dual citizenship with both Spain and France. He was born in Zaragoza in Spain, but his father is French, giving him access to that citizenship as well.

The French Football Federation, thus, are alert to his situation and see the time to be opportune to steal the player away from the Spanish national team. They already have him on their radar and could well look to go on the offensive.

Lemaitre has already been contacted by the French federation and knows of the interest from Les Bleus. The ball is now in the park of the Spanish U-17 team to see if they can offer him a regular role or they opt to lose him at an early stage in his career.

With the U-17 World Cup coming in November, Lemaitre could well see better prospects of featuring in the event if he switches federations and it is thus a serious option for the player now. The coming weeks could well be decisive.

The defender is expected to make a jump to Real Madrid’s Juvenil C side this season, but it is not ruled out that he makes a jump directly to Juvenil B or even Juvenil A. Needless to say, he is one to look out for in the coming years.
