Gabriel Jesus has again fronted a drought-ending triumph, as Arsenal were crowned Premier League champions on Tuesday, the 19th. The Brazilian’s role recalls his breakthrough season with Palmeiras in 2016.
Nosso Palestra points out the symmetry. Palmeiras ended a 22-year drought in 2016, and Arsenal returned to the summit 22 years after the 2003/04 Invincibles, again in a year ending in six.
Jesus was omitted from Brazil’s final World Cup squad, yet had further cause to celebrate his European career.
The triumph takes him to five Premier League titles, after four with Manchester City. He now sits behind Ederson on six, level with Fernandinho on five and ahead of Anderson on four among Brazilians.
Since his league debut in 2017, he is the second highest-scoring Brazilian in Premier League history with 78 goals in 242 games. He trails Roberto Firmino, who has 82 in 256.
His English honours also include the 2018/19 FA Cup, Community Shields in 2018 and 2019, and League Cups in 2017/18, 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2020/21.
This season he still targets the Champions League, which could be a first for Arsenal. The final will be played on the 30th against PSG.
In England he has 126 goals and 67 assists in 358 matches, a rate of 0.54 goal contributions per game. For Arsenal, since 2022/23, he has 31 goals and 22 assists in 122 appearances.
