Joao Gomes has thanked Wolves after completing a 38 million move to Aston Villa, ending three-and-a-half years and 130 appearances at Molineux.

The player said in a post that the club had welcomed him from day one and helped him grow as both a footballer and a person.

He accepted the timing of his exit, coming after Wolves were relegated from the Premier League, was not what he wanted, but said he leaves satisfied he gave his best in every training session and match. He added he will keep supporting the club.

In a separate message, Gomes said his work with the Wolves Foundation was his greatest legacy at Molineux.

The former Flamengo midfielder regularly attended Foundation activities and took a close interest in the Wolf Words project, visiting schools to support children with speech and language difficulties, shaped by his own stammer.

He was named a PFA community champion earlier this year and was the club’s community player of the year last season. He said he would miss it.
