Geoffrey Moncada is expected to replace Florian Maurice as OGC Nice sporting director, with a final agreement possible on Monday, according to L'Équipe. He is in advanced talks with the club.

Nice secured their top-flight status on Friday night, beating Saint-Étienne 4-1 in the Ligue 1/Ligue 2 play-off second leg after a 0-0 first leg. The result allows the club to press on with major decisions after a gruelling season.

After eight years at AC Milan, the 39-year-old former technical director was released from his contract at the start of the week.

Moncada convinced Ineos chief executive Jean-Claude Blanc and Maurice Cohen during a meeting this week.

Talks with Grégory Lorenzi had progressed before he reversed his decision, leaving Moncada as the leading candidate. Born in Antibes and formerly at Monaco, Moncada is expected to work with Roger Ricort, a close ally of Cohen and the club’s sporting director from 2002 to 2009, who would return as president’s adviser.
