Bad news from the Bayern Women’s preseason: Goalkeeper Anna Klink has suffered a metacarpal fracture. The 31-year-old will be sidelined for weeks.

The club has officially confirmed the injury. According to the club, Klink sustained the fracture during training and will be sidelined for “several weeks.” For the record champions, this is yet another personnel setback in the middle of their summer preseason.

The timing is particularly unfortunate: their first competitive match is scheduled for August 15. In the Super Cup, the Bayern women’s team will face VfL Wolfsburg. It is considered unlikely that Klink will be ready to play by then. As a result, the goalkeeper will miss a significant portion of the remainder of preseason training.

Klink joined FC Bayern from Basel

Klink had only moved from FC Basel to Munich in the summer of 2025 and had signed a contract running through June 2027. In her first season on the Isar, she celebrated the double of the league title and the DFB Cup with the team—though without making a single appearance in a competitive match.

In the goalkeeping pecking order, the 31-year-old most recently ranked third, behind starting goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic and her backup, Mala Grohs. This hierarchy is unlikely to change much in the new season.

New signing van Eijk increases the competition

Following Grohs’ departure, the Munich team signed Regina van Eijk for the upcoming season. The 24-year-old Dutchwoman has 114 appearances for Ajax under her belt and is considered a serious challenger to Mahmutovic. Klink will likely have to settle for a spot behind them.

This gives coach José Barcala three experienced goalkeepers at his disposal: van Eijk, Mahmutovic, and Klink. Klink’s future beyond 2027 remains uncertain. Anna Wellmann could eventually take her place: The goalkeeper has been signed and will initially be loaned to SD Eibar for one season before potentially becoming a permanent part of the squad starting in the summer of 2027.
