Gonçalo Oliveira ‘to join’ Rennes in 3.5 million euro move | OneFootball

According to Fabrizio Romano, Rennes have agreed a deal worth about 3.5 million euros to sign Benfica centre-back Gonçalo Oliveira, who is preparing to travel to France to finalise the move before it is made official.

One of Benfica B’s captains, he is set to end his association with the club and continue his career in Ligue 1, a notable step for the Portugal under-21 international.

Oliveira is currently recovering from a sprain to his left ankle, and had prioritised taking his career abroad after several years rising through Benfica’s system.

At Rennes, he will join an ambitious side who finished sixth in last season’s French top flight and secured a place in the next Europa League.

Although named in several first-team squads for Benfica in recent seasons, he did not make a competitive appearance.

In 2025/26 he played 33 matches for Benfica across Liga Portugal Meu Super and the UEFA Youth League, logging 2,882 minutes, scoring four goals and adding two assists.
