Grêmio ‘to explore’ Peñarol swap for Arezo, with Nahuel Herrera monitored | OneFootball

Grêmio are pushing ahead with 2026 planning under new head coach Luís Castro, weighing exits and targeted signings, with talks involving striker Arezo and Peñarol.

According to Gremistas.net, Arezo is not in Grêmio’s plans and, with no interest in returning to Brazilian football, is expected to remain at Peñarol. The Uruguayan club have said they cannot meet the 4 million euros asking price, about R$ 25.5 million.

Grêmio are open to negotiating a lower fee and are assessing options within Peñarol’s squad. One being monitored is centre-back Nahuel Herrera, aged 21.

Peñarol are reluctant to do business for Herrera, who is viewed internally as a key prospect to generate revenue in the coming years.

Both clubs aim to accelerate talks to reach a decision in the coming days. If there is no progress, Arezo is due in Porto Alegre on 2 January for Grêmio’s squad return.
