Gui Negão scores for Corinthians after four-month drought

On the night of Thursday (5th), Corinthians hosted Capivariano at the Neo Química Arena, in a match valid for the sixth round of the first phase of the 2026 Paulista Championship, and triumphed 3-0. With the victory, the Alvinegro jumped from seventh to fourth place overall in the state championship with 11 points (three wins, two draws, and one loss – nine goals scored and five conceded).

Scorer of one of Corinthians' goals in the match, the 18-year-old forward Gui Negão scored again for the first time since October 1, 2025, which was a little over four months ago. On that day, he received a cross from Matheuzinho and opened the scoring in the 1-1 draw against Internacional at Beira-Rio, in the 26th round of the Brazilian Championship.

In the match against Capivariano, Gui Negão played for 72 minutes, being substituted by Pedro Raul. The goal by the number 56 came at the 20th minute of the second half when he anticipated the opposing defender at the near post and headed the ball into the net after a cross from midfielder Dieguinho, who received it on the right, cut inside, and crossed to the young forward's head.

According to Sofascore, a sports statistics app, Gui Negão received a score of 7.5 in the app, accumulating: 10/11 accurate passes (91%), 23 actions with the ball, one foul suffered, 1/1 successful dribbles, one defensive contribution, one ball recovery, 3/5 ground duels won, and 1/3 aerial duels won.

Gui Negão was promoted to the professional squad of Corinthians at the end of the first half of 2025, when Dorival Júnior was already the team's coach – hired at the end of April. His debut occurred in June, and three months later, he was decisive in Alvinegro's qualification for the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil, as he scored in both games against Athletico-PR in the quarterfinals.

In recent months, he had been inconsistent in performance and even lost his place in the Corinthians squad. In total, with the Corinthians jersey, he has scored six goals and provided two assists in 29 games (18 as a starter). The Son of Terrão, even with less than a year in the professional team, already has two titles: Copa do Brasil (2025), against Vasco, and the Supercopa do Brasil (2026), against Flamengo.

After defeating Capivariano in Itaquera, the club from Parque São Jorge will host Palmeiras at the Neo Química Arena in a Derby valid for the seventh and penultimate round of the first phase of the 2026 Paulista Championship. The match will take place next Sunday (8th) at 8:30 PM (Brasília time).
