Barcelona return to action this weekend in a game against Levante as they continue playing on the road, hoping for the Spotify Camp Nou to be ready in September.

After securing a comfortable 3-0 win over Mallorca, the Catalans will look to keep their winning run going and thus mount pressure on Real Madrid, who looked unconvincing against Osasuna.

In the buildup to the second game of the season, Hansi Flick is not expected to drastically change his starting lineup as the team is just getting back into rhythm after a hiatus.

SPORT, however, suggests that one change is indeed likely on the night.

A midfield modification

As relayed by the Spanish outlet, the German tactician is seriously considering replacing Fermin Lopez in the starting lineup with Dani Olmo this weekend to slightly change up matters.

The decision has nothing to do with either player’s form and is not a statement of Flick’s preference between the two.

Instead, it is a means for Flick to keep a healthy competition between Lopez and Olmo, which he sees as a key means to boost both players’ performances.

The manager backs both stars and wishes to keep them motivated ahead of a season where they will each have their moments to shine and step up for the club.

Creating a rotational culture and making clear there is no favouritism will go a long way on that front.

While Fermin shone in preseason, the player was decent at best in the team’s opening match. In fairness to him, however, Olmo did not particularly shine in his cameo as well.

The game this weekend will be a big chance for the latter to prove his worth and show that he can return to his best version.

Needless to say, however, his competitor will likely have minutes off the bench as well, and Barcelona will hope the duo can develop a healthy competition.
