Iago Herrerín has joined Deportivo Pasto as their new goalkeeper in Colombia’s top division, extending his career at 37. The club said in a post that the former Athletic goalkeeper is now part of Urkunina, welcoming him in Basque and Spanish.
The Volcánico outfit shared a video of his best saves, many from his time at Athletic, where he enjoyed his peak years.
Herrerín said he had arrived, addressing fans as Volcánicos. This is his first move to South America after playing last year for Olympic Charleroi in Belgium’s second tier.
His career also includes stints with Sestao River, Valencia, Leganés, Numancia, Atlético de Madrid B, Bilbao Athletic and Barakaldo in Spain, Al-Raed in Saudi Arabia, and AEK Larnaca in Cyprus.
He spent eight seasons at Athletic from 2013 to 2021, making 119 appearances and conceding 135 goals, and won the Supercopa de España in 2015 and 2021.
Pasto opened their league campaign on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Deportivo Independiente Medellín, winger Andrey Estupiñán scoring a penalty.
