Barcelona icon Lionel Messi has this week made public his admiration for the talents of current Blaugrana starlet Lamine Yamal.

Wide-man Lamine is of course widely viewed as something of an heir to Leo Messi’s throne in Catalunya’s capital.

After the Argentine spent the glory years of his career lighting up the Camp Nou courtesy of an unmatched blend of touch, dribbling, vision, goals and assists, Lamine has since gone a long way towards following in the footsteps of the Argentine.

Though it is too early to make legitimate comparisons with the greatest player to ever touch a football, the 18-year-old, left-footed and boasting the magic touch himself, is about as close a profile as Barcelona are likely to produce.

And as alluded to above, one individual on whom as much has not been at all lost is Messi himself.

Speaking during an Adidas event this week, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner was asked which current up-and-coming player most reminds him of himself.

And Messi, as cited by Diario Sport, went on to explain:

“There is a new generation of footballers who are very good and who have many years ahead of them, but if I have to choose one because of age, for what he has done so far and for the future he may have, it is Lamine. There’s no doubt, for me, he’s the best.”
