Even if the Saudi Pro League cannot compete with the top leagues in Europe in purely sporting terms, more and more players are being drawn to the desert. It has now been revealed that an FC Bayern star is also flirting with a move to Saudi Arabia
In the shadow of the contract poker surrounding Dayot Upamecano, a report has suddenly emerged that is causing a stir. As revealed in the BILD podcast Bayern Insider, rumors are doing the rounds that the French central defender has a special exit clause for a move to Saudi Arabia
What would have been considered a side note a few years ago is now an integral part of many contract talks. Saudi Arabia no longer only plays a role for players over the age of 30, but is increasingly being considered as a strategic exit option. As BILD soccer boss Christian Falk claims to have learned, Saudi Arabia was also a topic in the contract poker with Bayern star Dayot Upamecano: „Upa is said to have a separate exit clause for Saudi Arabia.“
The reasons for this are obvious: From the consultants‘ point of view, Saudi Arabia is a highly attractive option: „It’s not just about normal money, but about an abnormal amount on top,“ emphasizes BILD reporter Heiko Niedderer. This perspective is increasingly being considered, especially for players with an international reputation who have already established themselves in sport

Particularly explosive: According to Falk, Upamecano himself is not averse to the idea. „In principle, he is keen on Saudi Arabia,“ explained the transfer insider. A sentence that shows how normalized this option has become. While many professionals publicly emphasize that they only want to think on a sporting level, Upamecano at least seems to be open to the idea – at a later date
Niedderer adds: such a move is hardly conceivable in the short to medium term. „He is extremely sought-after in Europe. Real Madrid wanted him, Paris wanted him.“ A move to the desert would hardly be justifiable in sporting terms at the moment. However, this scenario is not completely out of the question. According to consistent media reports, Upamecano has secured a fixed exit clause of €65 million. This is set to take effect from the summer of 2027.
