How are Flamengo’s talks for Thiago Almada progressing? | OneFootball

Flamengo are progressing in talks to sign Thiago Almada from Atlético de Madrid this window, but football director José Boto says there is no agreement and the player has not yet given the green light.

"It is true we are interested in Thiago and we are in talks with him. Nothing is closed, the player has not said yes. If he comes, it will be on the terms we want, we do not have an oil well to spend money that does not exist. We are working on it. Right now, there is no agreement with him. He is an excellent player and, unfortunately for us, other clubs are interested. I am confident things can move, but it is not true that we have his yes or an agreement," he told Paparazzo Rubro-Negro.

Boto said Atlético want to sell, so Flamengo now await the player's decision. He stressed buyer and seller are aligned, but the player's intention is still unclear, and with the World Cup only finishing on Sunday, they are not rushing a decision.

He also dismissed talk of a three-year contract, saying the length has not even been discussed. Boto added they are working on Almada and two further signings, and urged patience to avoid overpaying.

Negotiations are around 30 million euros, with Atlético holding 50% of Almada's economic rights and Botafogo, run by Eagle, the other half. River Plate made an official offer but have struggled to provide guarantees, and Flamengo have outbid them.

Talks with Atlético are described as advanced and terms with the player's representative are well aligned. Meanwhile, Flamengo visit Chapecoense on Wednesday 22 in Brasileirão matchweek 19, kicking off at 21:30 Brasília time at Arena Condá in Santa Catarina.
